Domaine du Beauregard
Meeting Stéphanie and Jérôme Dépernon earlier this year, we felt an immediate connection. Here was a small, family-owned Burgundy domaine that reminded us of so many Australian producers we love: a sibling team farming their own vineyards, making their own wines and getting on with the work. Great people making bright, full-flavoured, honest wines and we were in.
Domaine du Beauregard has been in the family for five generations. Based in Saint-Sernin-du-Plain, where the southern Côte de Beaune meets the Côtes du Couchois, the estate works across Maranges, the Hautes Côtes de Beaune and the surrounding regional appellations. These are some of the last pockets of Burgundy where real value can still be found, and this range is a lovely reminder of just how much pleasure they offer.
We love the richer, warm-hearted character of these wines. They’re bright and full-flavoured, with generous fruit, proper structure and an ease that makes you want another glass. These are Burgundies for drinking, for opening over dinner and sharing with friends. There’s plenty of character to discover, but no need to make a speech before pouring.
Behind that generosity is thoughtful work. Jérôme looks after the vines and winemaking, drawing on his training in Beaune and experience in Bordeaux and Burgundy, while Stéphanie brings experience from both France and Australia to her work sharing the wines. Their approach is attentive and practical: respect the vineyard, keep the individual plots distinct and give each wine the care it needs.
For anyone curious about Burgundy, this is a perfect place to start. And for those who already love it, there’s the pleasure of finding a small family domaine making delicious wines at prices that still feel reasonable - even at premier cru level.
